Why Think ? – 1st Prize Winning Essay by Esther OKNONKWO (SSC1)

Why think? Why think about life, success, victory, innovations and strategies? We do this unconsciously without noticing it. Thinking is very essential to man. In a case where man didn’t think of what to do to survive, man won’t be that knowledgeable, man would still be hunting in the forest without any possibility of making life better.

Donald Trump, an American business man who was born June 14, 1946 said, “You have to think anyway, so why not think big?” Also, a Buddhist leader who was born 568 BC and died 438 BC postulated that “we are shaped by our thoughts. We become what we think. When the mind is pure, joy follows like a shadow that never leaves”. This is 100% true. Whatever you think of yourself that is what you will become. If you think high of yourself and work with efforts to soar high surely, that will come to reality.

According to the ABC Dictionary, to think is to have or form ideas in one’s mind. When these ideas are in your mind, you need to think of a way to make these ideas come to reality. If we think, we think positively or negatively. When you think of how to destroy and kill people that’s negative thinking. On the other hand when you are thinking of a way to save people and make the world a better place, is positive thinking.

We live in a world where creative thinking is valued highly. We all want children to have confidence in their abilities to create and dominate their own world and have resilience to speak up for what they believe is true. We are what we think and the way we think determines how we experience life. Therefore, if you want to make a difference in life, we need to change the way we think.

When last did you make an important decision, solved a complex problem, designed a program, create a new song or even brought a brilliant invention? One answer to this question is well devoted to the way you think and use your brain because God has made this brain so wonderfully that it can do great things. He put those cells in our brains to enable us reason.  If God didn’t want man to reason, he wouldn’t give us the brain and put the cells in them.

Making decision is a legitimate way of thinking. We have choices A and B. We think about the options and eventually make a choice. This is basically the way we think of it. But man has gone far in thinking; he is where he is today because of thinking. Thinking is an honest exercise with the brain.

For instance, a scientist sat down and took his time to think about the law of thermodynamics stating that “energy can neither be created nor destroyed.” It is also stated that “energy when used is not 100% efficient because as energy is transferred it can be reduced when heated.”

Thinking doesn’t really mean only solving problems. It is a way of life and knowing how to apply this aspect of life to something big and extraordinary. With thinking, we can all make the world a better place and when we think. Let us be determined to make our thought beneficial to mankind.

It is necessary to think, so think Big. Good thinkers, especially those who are also good leaders, understand the power of shared thinking. They know that when they value the thoughts of others, they receive the compounding results of shared thinking and accomplish more than they ever could on their own.
